Día del seminario web: Preparación & análisis de coque, ferroaleaciones y escoria

Verder Scientific Inc, Mager Scientific & SPECTRO Analytical Instruments have joined forces to present live, virtual workshops for quality control in the Steel & Foundry Industries. Together we will present education & application information on preparing & analyzing metal samples; “Preparation & Analysis of Metal Samples” and “Preparation & Analysis of Coke, Ferroalloys and Slags”. We will have 2 sessions available for each topic over 3 days. During these 3 days you will hear from experts in sample preparation, heat treatment, metallography & hardness testing, elemental analysis & spark spectrometry.

Verder Scientific is a leader in Sample Preparation, Heat Treatment & Combustion Analysis, bringing paramount expertise to these processes.

SPECTRO Analytical Instruments, leader in optical emission spectroscopy & XRF, brings unsurpassable knowledge & experience in the iron & steel making process.

Mager Scientific, leader in sample prep & hardness testing, brings incomparable knowledge from years of experience working within the Steel & Foundries Industries.

Schedule

C&S Analysis in Metallurgical Coke

ELTRA Elemental Analyzer Solutions for Coke Applications.  Standard Test Method for Sulfur in the Analysis Sample of Coal and Coke Using High-Temperature Tube Furnace Combustion in accordance with ASTM D4239 with the ELEMENTRAC CS-d.

Presenter
Cesar Ballester, Sales Manager for our Eltra product line at Verder Scientific Inc, with a background in Chemistry & Engineering

Treatment of Iron Ore for Blast Furnace Feed Stock

Carbolite Gero presents our Iron Ore Reducibility Furnace, providing a system overview & reviewing applications for the testing of iron ore feedstock for blast furnaces. We will also highlight some standard lab solutions such as ovens, tube furnaces, and box furnaces.

Presenter
Michael Hager, Business Unit Manager for our Carbolite Gero product line at Verder Scientific Inc, graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in Material Science & Engineering and has extensive knowledge in Heat Treatment in laboratory settings.

Slag Sample Preparation for XRF analysis

During this session, slag samples will be taken through the sample preparation process of crushing, milling, and pellet pressing.  The process will be conducted as a live demonstration in the lab using the BB50 Jaw Crusher, MM400 Mixer Mill, and PP35 Pellet Press.

Presenter
Kyle James, Business Unit Manager for our Retsch product line at Verder Scientific Inc, with extensive experience in sample preparation & particle size reduction for 14 years.

Analysis of Slags with XRF

The analysis of slags is essential in both iron and steelmaking production and is monitored for various important aspects of the process.  Controlling the slag can improve the lifetime of the furnace, reduce power consumption, ensure impurities are removed, and reduce the amount of additives needed in the process.  Historically, WD-XRF spectrometers have been used for this critical analysis.  However, new developments in ED-XRF technology allow for extremely precise measurements that are comparable to WD-XRF.  This technology provides outstanding stability in highly demanding applications requiring the sensitivity and precision necessary for analysis of major and minor elements, with a much lower cost of ownership.

Presenter
Meredith Daniel-Prowse, Ph.D., Applications Scientist for SPECTRO Analytical Instrument’s XRF Product Line.  Meredith has 20 years of experience with elemental analysis and sample preparation.
